Combining Wilpattu with Sri Lanka's South Coast: The Perfect 10-Day Trip

Why This Combo Works
Sri Lanka's geography makes it uniquely suited to combining wildlife and beach. Wilpattu is north-west, the south coast is 6–7 hours south.
The progression: 1. Arrive Colombo, transfer to Wilpattu (3.5–4 hours) 2. Three days of safari (deep immersion) 3. Drive south through the country 4. Three days on the south coast 5. Visit Galle Fort, fly out
Why safari first: Wildlife requires active early mornings. Beach is for recovery. End your trip relaxed.
Best time: October–April (perfect in south, green season in Wilpattu) or May–September (Wilpattu at its peak, some rain on south coast).

Choosing Your Beach
Mirissa — Best all-rounder. Protected bay, whale watching (Nov–April), good restaurants, laid-back. Can get busy.
Unawatuna — Most convenient. 15 minutes from Galle, coral reef for snorkelling, many restaurants. Can be crowded.
Tangalle — For solitude. Empty beaches, no development, true relaxation. Limited dining.
Weligama — For surfers. Beginner-friendly waves, lively backpacker scene, good value.
